TOURNAMENT INFORMATION / 2005
To: Walton JV Basketball Parents
From: Coach Goydish and Coach Williams
Subject: Junior Varsity Tournament Situation
Coach Williams and I wanted to update you on the situation that occured
concerning our JV Boys and Girls and participation in an end of year
tournament.
It was originally planned in our Spring region coaches meeting
that we would have a "region" JV and Freshman end-of year
tournament. Milton volunteered to host the Freshman tournament and
another school to do the JV. We scheduled accordingly based on the fact
that there would be a tournament held. The freshman tournament was put
together by Milton as planned. But when the teams began to inquire
about the JV tournament, the school that originally agreed to host,
said they were unable to do it due to gym scheduling problems. Coach
Williams, Coach Kitzrow and myself immediately got on the phone and
aggressively tried to find a tournament to get in to. We were on the
waiting list for two of them and would have been the first replacement
in the Centennial tournament if someone backed out. We then were going
to try and host our own modified version over this week, however the
rescheduling of region varsity games this past week hurt that
possibility. We, along with schools like Lassiter, Sequoyah, Wheeler,
Woodstock, Kell, and Cherokee were all left in the same situation. As
late as this Monday, Coach Kitzrow was still trying to attempt to get
something worked out with some of the other schools. In fact, alot of
the other schools cancelled their JV and Freshman games on Monday's
recheduled date, as we did not.
We are very proud of our Junior Varsity teams and how they have
improved and also wanted them to continue to play. We apologize
for not communicating this information to you all and I take responsibility
for it. We really hoped that we would be able to work something out
for our kids and coaches, who have worked extremely hard this year.
If you have any other questions, feel free to call me. I thank you for
supporting the Walton Basketball program and the student-athletes
that participate in it.
Coach Goydish
